A formal petition has been submitted by Dr. Vishnu Nene Limon Abayateye, a member of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), calling for the removal of the Association’s President, Dr. Frank Serebour.
The petition follows Dr. Serebour’s directive instructing GMA members to continue working, despite Organised Labour’s nationwide strike on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
In the petition, dated October 8 and addressed to the GMA’s General Secretary, Dr. Abayateye accuses Dr. Serebour of making this decision without consulting the National Executive Council or the General Assembly. He claims this unilateral action has tarnished the GMA’s reputation, portraying the association as inconsistent, particularly in light of its previous stance on illegal mining (galamsey).
Dr. Abayateye plans to introduce a motion for Dr. Serebour’s removal at the GMA’s upcoming annual general assembly in Ho, scheduled from November 3 to 10, 2024, seeking a two-thirds majority support to advance the motion.
