The Ministry of Roads and Highways has called for calm following a tragic blast on the Buduburam stretch, which caused significant damage and injuries. The incident led to the death of three individuals, while over 30 others were injured.
Addressing the situation, Nasir Ahmad Yartey, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry, stressed the importance of adhering to established safety protocols during such operations.
“We will make sure that the contractor sticks to the strict protocol for doing this. We have done this 21 times without any incident,” Yartey stated, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to safety during controlled blasting activities.
Yartey also expressed concern over the violent response from the local community following the blast.
“I should also put on record that when the incident happened, about 20 workers from the company were severely beaten by the youth in the area, and about two workers were nearly lynched to death,” he revealed.
In light of the unrest, the Ministry has appealed for calm and urged the security agencies to take charge of the situation to prevent further harm.
“We want to call on the youth to calm down. The security agencies should also take charge so that we make sure that no further life is lost after this incident,” Yartey urged.
The Ministry, in collaboration with the police and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the blast and ensure that enhanced safety measures are implemented in future operations.
