The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has instructed its members to suspend their ongoing strike by October 29, 2024.

This decision follows several weeks of industrial action by UTAG members across various public universities, which has caused significant disruptions to academic activities nationwide.

UTAG initiated the strike on October 10, 2024, in protest against the government’s perceived inaction regarding illegal mining (galamsey), which has severely impacted many river bodies and forest reserves.

In an official statement, the NEC urged UTAG members to return to the classroom, with tertiary students expected to resume classes on November 1, 2024.
