A group of assembly members from the Ellembelle District Assembly, known as the Concerned Ellembelle Assembly Members, is calling on the Auditor General to investigate alleged financial mismanagement by the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ellembelle, Kwesi Bonzoh, the District Finance Officer, and a former Coordinating Director. The assembly members claim these officials have engaged in financial abuses and misuse of office.

Speaking at a press conference, Paul Kodwo Kwaw, spokesperson for the group and Kikam Assembly Member, accused the DCE and his team of unauthorized expenditure. According to Kwaw, they have spent the assembly’s funds from January 2024 to the present without the required approval from the General Assembly of the Ellembelle District. These actions, Kwaw stated, violate section 117, subsection 1, of the Local Government Act of 2016 (Act 936), prompting the demand for an official investigation.

The Concerned Ellembelle Assembly Members are urging authorities to take immediate action to address these alleged breaches and hold those involved accountable.

“Abuse of office and the disregard of the standing orders in the Local Government Act 2016, Act 936, which regulates how the Assembly is managed, and disregard of the financial regulations enacted by Parliament led by the DCE of Ellembelle, Kwesi Bonzoh, who is currently using the logistics and revenue of the Assembly for his personal political ambition, under the guise of so-called community engagement.

“We call on the presiding member to institute a commission of inquiry immediately investigate Kwesi Bonzoh, District Finance Officer and former Coordinating Director into the spending of the revenue received in January 2024 to date.”
