NCCE Promotes Peaceful Elections in Yapei-Kusawgu Through Parliamentary Dialogue

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held a parliamentary candidates’ dialogue in Buipe, in the Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency of the Savannah Region, to promote peace and informed decision-making ahead of the December polls.

Inclusive Engagement for Peace

The event brought together representatives from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), as well as a large audience comprising chiefs, professional groups, and artisans. Chief Gbankulso Boah, Chairman of the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC), emphasized the importance of fostering unity among political parties and curbing the use of intemperate language in political discourse.

“The purpose of this dialogue is to ensure that voters are well-informed about the visions of the various candidates and can make their choices based on clear and constructive proposals,” Chief Boah stated.

Promoting Unity and Democratic Values

Mr. Saaka Y. Muftawu, NCCE District Officer, highlighted the role of such dialogues in promoting democracy and peace. He added that a recent NCCE survey identified key voter concerns, including education, employment, health, roads and infrastructure, the economy, and agriculture.

Candidates Share Their Vision

The parliamentary candidates outlined their plans to address the constituency’s pressing issues:

  • Mr. Awudu Adam (GUM) pledged to improve healthcare access by constructing additional CHPS compounds and addressing the high incidence of snake bites in the area. He also proposed regularizing the herbal medical sector to create employment opportunities.
  • Mr. Adamu Zakaria (NPP) emphasized education as his top priority, promising to ensure that all school-age children gain access to education under the Free SHS policy. He also vowed to improve the poor state of Buipe’s inner roads, pledging a significant facelift if elected.

Strengthening Electoral Peace

The dialogue served as a platform to reinforce peace and unity while enabling the electorate to assess candidates’ policies and commitments. Deputy NCCE Chairman Mr. Samuel Akuamoah Asare, present at the event, underscored the importance of constructive political engagement in ensuring peaceful elections.

The NCCE, through initiatives like this, continues to champion democracy, inclusivity, and electoral peace, setting the tone for a fair and transparent electoral process in the Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency and beyond.
