The government of Ghana is set to inaugurate over 80 educational projects today, Thursday, November 21, 2024, marking a significant step toward enhancing access to quality education nationwide. These initiatives span all 16 regions of the country, with a focus on providing modern educational facilities designed to meet the diverse needs of Ghanaian students.
Nationwide Inauguration Event
The event, to be led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will take place simultaneously in districts and regions across the country. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum will join the President in officiating the ceremonies, which will be broadcast live on major television networks and social media platforms to ensure nationwide participation.
Scope of the Projects
The educational projects encompass a wide range of facilities from basic schools to senior high schools and technical institutions, including STEM-focused schools, E-blocks, and early childhood education centers. Notable projects include:
- Kpasenkpe Model STEM Senior High School in the West Mamprusi District
- Accra STEM Academy in La-Nkwantanang-Madina
- Awaso Model STEM Senior High School in Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai
- 12-unit classroom block at Salem D/A Basic School in Atwima Mponua
- Two-unit kindergarten blocks in communities like Fremasi DA Primary in Assin South
These initiatives reflect the government’s ongoing commitment to improving the quality of education and ensuring that every Ghanaian child has access to a conducive learning environment.
Regional Highlights
The Ashanti Region will see several key projects, including the Bosomtwe Model STEM Junior High School with a four-story, 11-unit classroom block, and the Wesley Girls Demonstration School in Kumasi with a new six-unit classroom block.
In the Northern Region, the Sagnarigu Tamale Business School will unveil an 18-unit classroom block to accommodate growing demand.
In the Volta Region, the Kodzobi Ando Basic School in Adaklu will benefit from a six-unit classroom block, complete with modern sanitation facilities.
Emphasis on Technical and Vocational Education
The government is also placing a strong emphasis on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) with projects like the Anyinam TVET-Applied Technical and Fashion School and the Akomadan TVET-Applied Technical School, designed to equip students with practical skills to meet the demands of the job market.
Public Invitation
The Ministry of Education invites all Ghanaians to witness this historic milestone, either in person at the commissioning sites or through the live broadcast. “We encourage all Ghanaians to join this celebration of progress in education,” the Ministry stated.
