NDC Urges Supporters to Strengthen Parliamentary Majority for 2024 Victory

As the 2024 general elections approach, Godwin Ako Gunn, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications team, has rallied party faithful to intensify efforts to ensure not only victory for John Dramani Mahama but also a decisive parliamentary majority. In a statement issued on November 22, 2024, Ako Gunn emphasized the need for unity, vigilance, and financial support to secure a strong mandate for change.

Ensuring Electoral Integrity

Ako Gunn reassured supporters of the party’s commitment to protecting the integrity of the electoral process. He praised the party’s dedicated monitoring teams, whose vigilance exposed irregularities at the printing presses of the Electoral Commission (EC). “The eagle-eyed team that caught the EC pants down… still have their eyes on the ball. Vigilance is the rule of the game, and your votes will be protected,” he stated.

Support for Parliamentary Candidates

While acknowledging the significant contributions from various stakeholders, including business communities, civil servants, and men in uniform, he highlighted the pressing need for further support at the constituency level. He urged party members to engage directly with parliamentary candidates and constituency offices to provide resources and assistance. “We have only a few days to go,” he reminded them, stressing the importance of grassroots mobilization.

The Role of Parliament in Mahama’s Agenda

Ako Gunn drew attention to the challenges of a hung parliament, warning that without a clear majority, a future NDC-led government under John Mahama could face significant hurdles. “Imagine this same hung parliament with JM in office and the same judiciary. Almost everything will be settled in court and not on the floor of parliament,” he noted.

He stressed that the party must strive for an “emphatic majority” to effectively implement policies and reclaim public institutions, which he argued have been undermined under the current administration.

Forgiveness and Unity

Acknowledging internal grievances within the party, Ako Gunn called for reconciliation, urging supporters to forgive any perceived offenses by party executives, MPs, or parliamentary candidates. “To be able to reset Ghana, it must take your ultimate commitment and your votes for your MP to prosecute the 2025 agenda,” he stated.

Call to Action

Ako Gunn concluded his statement with a rallying cry for collective effort and resilience. He reminded supporters that the party’s victory depends on their active participation and unwavering commitment. “Do your part, and let me do my part, and our votes will definitely be protected. Keep hope alive. There are better days ahead,” he affirmed.

Full Statement by Godwin Ako Gunn – November 22, 2024

The electoral materials are on their way to the regions. Soon, they will be in your district armoury. The eagle-eyed team that caught the EC pants down at the printing presses still have their eyes on the ball. Vigilance is the rule of the game, and your votes will be protected.

Let me salute all comrades, businessmen, men in uniforms, and civil and public servants who have contributed to the oiling of our “vehicle for change.” We salute you!! You did it out of trust and the wish to see change. We are grateful. We know how difficult things are, especially for the business communities!!!

However, following visits to the constituencies, I must still canvass for support for the constituencies! Walk to our candidates or the constituency offices and find out how you can be of help. We have only a few days to go.

The happenings in Parliament today must mean something to us. If they don’t mean anything to you, they do to the success of John Mahama. We need an emphatic majority to lead this country. Think about this.

Today, the judiciary is more concerned with the number of parliamentary sittings rather than the number of cases before them that they need to deal with. Imagine this same hung Parliament with JM in office and the same judiciary. Almost everything will be settled in court and not on the floor of Parliament.

We have endured eight years of pain from the executive arm of government. Public officers like Domelevo and others have had their share. Public offices like the Auditor General’s Department, EC, NIA, and NIB, etc., have become puppets in their hands. The most worrying today are the Judiciary, Council of State, and the National Peace Council.

Comrades, our destiny must be in our own hands. Forgive every PC, MP, Executive, or anyone who may have offended you or is about to offend you. That is advanced forgiveness. Don’t wait for an apology.

To be able to reset Ghana, it must take your ultimate commitment and your votes for your MP to prosecute the 2025 agenda. Mahama cannot win while we limp in Parliament.

If you believe in the ZU, it must reflect in the ZA! Do your part, and let me do my part, and our votes will definitely be protected. Keep hope alive. There are better days ahead.
