Roads Minister Vows Action on Delayed Road Projects

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, has reassured Ghanaians of the government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure despite setbacks caused by the country’s debt exchange programme.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Flower Pot Interchange in Accra, Mr. Asenso-Boakye addressed growing concerns over stalled projects such as the Tema-Aflao Road, which has drawn significant public attention following a viral video highlighting the severe challenges faced by commuters.

“These difficulties are a direct result of delays in completing critical projects due to challenges with our creditors under the debt exchange programme,” the Minister explained.

Immediate Interventions Underway

To address pressing concerns, Mr. Asenso-Boakye announced the activation of the ministry’s maintenance systems. A Mobile Maintenance Unit will begin targeted repairs on the Tema-Aflao Road in the coming days, with similar efforts planned for the Tema-Akosombo Road and other projects.

Additionally, he highlighted completed asphalt overlay works at crucial locations, including the ground level of the Nungua Interchange and the PTC Interchange in Takoradi, as measures to ease traffic congestion and improve road conditions.

Commitment to Development

The Minister stressed the importance of road infrastructure for Ghana’s socio-economic development, assuring the public that negotiations with development partners are ongoing to resolve funding delays.

“I urge you to remain patient and continue supporting us as we work together toward achieving this shared goal,” he said.

The government remains optimistic that these interventions will address immediate challenges while paving the way for the completion of critical road projects nationwide.
