27 Arrested in Abetifi Chieftaincy Dispute Granted GH¢200K Bail

The Mpraeso Circuit Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Adwoa Akyamaah Ofosu, has granted bail to 27 individuals involved in the Abetifi chieftaincy unrest.

The suspects, accused of abducting the Chief of Abetifi, had previously been denied bail two weeks ago. However, after a plea from their legal representatives, the court reconsidered and approved their release on Thursday.

The court set bail at GH¢200,000 with two sureties, including one with justification. The accused are expected to reappear before the court on December 19, 2024.

Speaking on the decision, Captain Nkrabeah Effah Darteh, counsel for the accused, lauded the court’s fairness and urged for peaceful resolution through legal processes.

“The law is working, and the judge has been fair. I commend her for listening to both sides and applying the law. Everything must be resolved in the courtroom—there’s no need for violence,” Captain Darteh stated.
