Winneba High Court has remanded Louisa Buabeng, an independent parliamentary candidate for the Effutu constituency, into police custody. The decision, delivered by Her Ladyship Justice Marriam Agyeman Gyasi Jawhary on Thursday, November 28, 2024, follows allegations of electoral-related misconduct.
Buabeng was initially apprehended on November 20 after a court hearing related to an election matter she had filed. She was re-arrested on Wednesday evening, November 27, and appeared in court the following day.
Reports reveal that her arrest is tied to the discovery of multiple voter identification cards at the residence of one of her aides. While the aide has been charged with unlawful possession of documents, Buabeng is facing charges of conspiracy to commit a crime.
The court has remanded Buabeng into custody for four days, and she is expected to reappear in court on Monday, December 2, 2024.
