The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has urged political parties to accept the results of the upcoming December elections as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful electoral process. Chairperson Jean Mensa, speaking at the signing of the 4th Presidential Election peace pact in Accra on Thursday, emphasized that the Commission has implemented stringent measures to guarantee that the elections are free, fair, and transparent.
Mensa expressed confidence in the EC’s ability to manage the election in a manner that upholds peace and prevents violence. She highlighted the Commission’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and accountability as foundational principles that will help build public trust and maintain credibility in the electoral process.
The EC chairperson also called on all stakeholders—including political parties, civil society, and the electorate—to maintain unity and peace, which are essential for a smooth electoral process. “As a commission, I am pleased to note that we have walked the talk of peace. Mindful of the fact that attaining peaceful electoral outcomes will depend on our actions. We have, right from the start of our electoral processes, consciously operated and carried our activities and conducted ourselves in a manner that will ensure peace before, during and after the elections,” Jean Mensa stated.
Her remarks come as Ghana gears up for the 2024 general elections, with the EC committed to fostering a stable environment conducive to fair and credible elections.
