The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed the People’s National Convention’s (PNC) endorsement of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The PNC announced its support for the NDC on Wednesday, November 27, after being disqualified from the presidential race by the Electoral Commission due to errors in its nomination forms.
Reacting to the endorsement, NPP Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed told Citi News on Thursday that the decision does not reflect the sentiment of the PNC’s grassroots members, as it was made solely by the party’s leadership.
“It is the leadership that has made their declaration, and we know that the leadership of the PNC has always supported the NDC,” Mohammed said, citing the party’s long-standing alignment with the NDC, including figures like Bernard Mornah.
The NPP remains confident in its ability to appeal to PNC members at the grassroots level. “We’ll speak to their minds, their emotions, and their questions, and they will understand that Ghana needs someone capable of leading the fourth industrial revolution,” he asserted.
Mohammed added that the NPP is unperturbed by the PNC leadership’s decision, emphasizing that it aligns with known affiliations and does not represent the entirety of PNC members.
The endorsement marks a notable development in Ghana’s political alliances as the 2024 elections approach.
