Two Jailed 30 Years for Robbing Banker at Gunpoint by the Accra Circuit Court

An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced two men to a total of 30 years in prison for robbing a banker of her vehicle and personal belongings at East Legon Christian Centre.

The convicted individuals, Peter Amuzu, also known as “Master Pee,” and Isaac Brena Eshun, nicknamed “Young,” pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and robbery. Each was handed 15 years’ imprisonment for conspiracy and another 15 years for robbery, with both sentences to run concurrently.

The robbery, which occurred on August 19, 2024, saw the suspects, armed with a pistol, force the victim to surrender her Mercedes Benz C180, valued at €60,000 (approximately GH¢1,045,738). The victim also lost personal items, including three iPhones, a German passport, ATM cards, and cash in various currencies.

A third accomplice, Ibrahim Mohammed, who allegedly purchased the stolen vehicle and provided the gun used in the crime, will stand trial separately for abetment of crime and dishonestly receiving stolen property.

Details of the Crime
The prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Haligah, revealed that Amuzu and Eshun, both previously on remand for robbery, conspired to commit the crime after their release. On the day of the incident, the two attacked the banker at gunpoint, seized her car, and fled. The vehicle was later transported to Tamale, where Mohammed attempted to conceal its identity and made a part payment of GH¢10,000 for the car.

Following their arrests in August, police recovered several items belonging to the victim, including phones, foreign currency, and official documents. Investigations also linked Amuzu to another robbery involving a Toyota Fortuner, whose owner was shot and robbed earlier in 2024.

Police are pursuing a fourth suspect, Kwame, believed to own the firearm used in the robberies.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to crack down on violent crime and bring perpetrators to justice.
