The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the resolution of an incident involving a broken seal on one of the electoral material bags meant for a constituency in the Eastern Region.
According to the police, the broken seal was discovered during routine checks after the materials were retrieved from the armoury for distribution. Initial investigations revealed that the seal had likely come off during the packing and unpacking process.
Integrity of Materials Confirmed
The Electoral Commission (EC), alongside representatives from political parties, conducted a thorough inspection of the bag and confirmed that its contents were intact and had not been tampered with.
“The Electoral Commission, with the support of political party representatives, has verified that the materials in question remain secure and unaffected,” a police statement read.
Stakeholders Assured
Authorities assured stakeholders, including the public and political parties, of the integrity and transparency of the electoral process, emphasizing that the incident posed no threat to the credibility of the elections.
“The issue has been resolved, and all stakeholders can rest assured that this incident will not compromise the integrity of the elections,” the statement concluded.
As the 2024 elections draw closer, incidents such as this underscore the importance of vigilance and collaboration among electoral officials, security services, and political parties to maintain public trust in the electoral process.
