The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed shortages of both presidential and parliamentary ballot papers in five constituencies within the Volta Region. The affected areas include Keta, Ketu North, Ho Central, Hohoe, and Ho West.
In a letter addressed to representatives of all presidential candidates, the EC outlined plans to address the issue by printing additional ballot papers at Acts Commercials Printing House in Accra. To ensure transparency, the Commission has invited all political parties and independent presidential candidates to appoint two representatives each to oversee the printing process.
The observation exercise is scheduled to take place today, Friday, November 29, 2024, at 10:00 am at Acts Commercials Printing House.
Commitment to Transparency
Samuel Tettey, the EC’s Deputy Chairman of Operations, reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to upholding the principles of transparency and accuracy in the electoral process. He assured the public that the necessary measures are being taken to resolve the shortfalls promptly.
“The Electoral Commission is committed to ensuring a smooth and credible election. We urge all stakeholders to trust the process as we work diligently to address this issue,” Tettey stated.
Ensuring Credibility
The EC’s move to involve representatives of all presidential candidates in the reprinting process underscores its efforts to build confidence in the electoral process ahead of the December elections.
This development comes amid heightened scrutiny of the Commission’s operations, with stakeholders emphasizing the need for accuracy and fairness in Ghana’s electoral system.
