President Akufo-Addo honours 362 recipients of the 2024 Head of State Award Scheme

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has honoured 362 young people for their exceptional contributions to community service, personal development, and leadership at the 2024 Head of State Award Scheme, Ghana.

They were recipients of the Gold Award Presentation (GAP) 2024, for finding solutions to some problems, while finding their career paths

The event, which took place at the Jubilee House on 29 November 2024, was celebrated under the theme “Nurturing Leaders for a Thriving Future.”

In his keynote address as the Chief Patron of the Head of State Award Scheme, the President highlighted the pivotal role of youth in shaping the nation’s destiny.

“The Head of State Awards scheme represents the spirit of determination, innovation, and community service that our nation needs. These awards are a testament to the incredible potential of our youth, and I urge all recipients to continue serving as role models in their communities and beyond.”

The ceremony also featured a speech delivered on behalf of Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, by Harriet Thompson, the British High Commissioner to Ghana. She emphasized the global significance of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award scheme and its transformative impact in Ghana.

“The Duke of Edinburgh International Award has transformed lives around the world, empowering young people with the skills, resilience, and determination to make meaningful contributions to their societies. Ghana’s continued commitment to this initiative showcases the country’s unwavering dedication to shaping the leaders of tomorrow.”

Harriet Thompson also commended the collaboration between Ghana and the international scheme, underscoring the importance of investing in youth development to secure a prosperous future.

The event saw the presence of several dignitaries, including the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, and other key government officials and stakeholders. They commended the recipients and reaffirmed their commitment to initiatives that empower young people to lead with purpose.

The Head of State Awards is a Ghana adaptation of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award scheme, recognizing achievers from across the country who excelled in areas such as physical recreation, skill development, volunteering, and adventurous journeys.

This year’s event recorded a significant increase in participation, reflecting a growing interest in the program among Ghanaian youth. The awardees, who completed rigorous activities across the program’s three levels, Bronze, Silver, and Gold represented diverse backgrounds, including students, professionals, and community volunteers.

The Head of State Award Scheme, Ghana, established in 1967, continues to be a cornerstone of youth empowerment, fostering leadership and resilience to prepare young people to meet the challenges of the future with confidence and purpose.
