Police Question EC Officer Over Transport of Election Materials

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has addressed a breach of protocol involving its District Electoral Officer (DEO) for Afadjato South in the Volta Region. On Thursday, December 5, the officer was questioned by the Police for transporting election materials in a private vehicle without the required Police escort.

In a statement signed by Deputy Chairman for Operations, Samuel Tettey, the EC clarified that the materials have been secured by the Police and assured the public that the integrity of the elections in the Afadjato South Constituency remains intact.

Breach of Protocol
The EC’s policy mandates that all election materials be transported using official vehicles and, where necessary, accompanied by Police escorts to ensure their security. The officer’s actions, which violated this policy, have prompted internal investigations by the Commission. The EC has pledged full cooperation with the Police in their ongoing probe.

Assurance of Election Integrity
Despite the officer’s breach, the EC emphasized that the security and integrity of the election process in the constituency remain unaffected.

The incident has raised awareness of the critical importance of adhering to electoral protocols to uphold public confidence in the electoral process as Ghana prepares for its general elections.

The EC’s swift response and commitment to transparency demonstrate its resolve to address any lapses and ensure a credible electoral process.
