2024 Polls: NDC and NPP MPs Opting Out of the Election

The 2024 general elections are underway, with notable absences among sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) from both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Some MPs chose not to contest, while others lost their re-election bids during the parliamentary primaries organized by their respective parties. The next Parliament, commencing on January 7, 2025, will feature a mix of returning and new MPs. However, over 60 sitting MPs will not be returning, having either opted out or been defeated in the primaries.

NPP MPs Who Opted Out of the Race

Eighteen NPP MPs announced their decision not to seek re-election before the party’s primaries in 2023 and 2024:
