The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concerns over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) delay in announcing the results of Saturday’s general elections. The party claims that the delay is heightening tensions and triggering instances of violence across parts of the country.
Speaking at the NDC headquarters on Sunday, December 8, the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, urged the EC to announce the results promptly to prevent further unrest. He pointed to growing frustration, particularly among NDC supporters and the youth, who are calling for greater clarity and transparency in the electoral process.
Asiedu Nketia, widely known as “General Mosquito,” highlighted that both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had completed their independent collation of results. He criticized the EC for failing to fulfill its role as the official body responsible for declaring the outcomes.
“The two key players [NPP and NDC] have produced our results, yet the EC is dragging its feet to announce the results. We made known in our previous update that the only way to ensure peace was for the EC to announce the results, but we are still waiting. Our agents are still waiting across the country, and because of the delay, the youth of this country have started reacting, and that is a dangerous sign,” Asiedu Nketia said.
He further cautioned that the delay is creating a vacuum, fostering anxiety, misinformation, and unrest. The NDC reiterated its call for the EC to act swiftly to avert any escalation of violence.
