Bawah Mogtari to Afenyo-Markin: Accept NDC Majority with Humility

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, special aide to President-elect John Dramani Mahama, has called on Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the outgoing Majority Leader in Parliament, to accept the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) majority status in the incoming ninth parliament with humility and respect.

Her remarks come amid disputes over parliamentary dominance following the contentious status of four vacant seats in Parliament during the just-concluded elections.

A Call for Humility and Cooperation

Speaking on Face to Face on Channel One TV, Mogtari underscored the importance of cooperation and respect in the new parliamentary dynamic, urging Afenyo-Markin to acknowledge the NDC’s victory.

“I will tell Afenyo, send your wounds out whatever you want. You are returning to Parliament in a very distasteful manner, in a way that you did not imagine. You will now have to eat humble pie and respect that side that you so disrespect and abhor so much,” she said.

A Message of Confidence in the NDC

Mogtari expressed confidence in the NDC’s ability to lead effectively in Parliament, emphasizing the party’s broad-based appeal and its commitment to delivering on its mandate.

“Now we are fully in charge, and I expect our parliamentarians to display to their best capacity and ability. Let Ghanaians know that the NDC is a broad-based party of mass appeal,” she added.

The Path Ahead

The incoming ninth parliament presents an opportunity for both sides to work collaboratively in addressing Ghana’s pressing issues. With the NDC securing a parliamentary majority, Mogtari’s comments reflect the party’s readiness to take on this leadership role while urging a respectful and productive relationship with their counterparts.
