Dr. Clement Apaak, the Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee in Parliament, has strongly criticized the government for its failure to settle the GH¢118 million debt owed to the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC). The outstanding arrears have led to the suspension of the release of the 2024 WASSCE results.
WAEC issued a statement urging the government to expedite payment in order to carry out necessary repairs on equipment used for scanning objective cards, which is crucial for the release of the results.
In an interview with Citi News, Dr. Apaak expressed his disapproval, highlighting the severe consequences of the delay. He pointed out that the withheld results are negatively impacting students who sat for the WASSCE earlier this year. The delay, he said, is “condemnable” and could have long-term consequences on students’ academic progress.
He further called on the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration to settle the debt and prevent further disruption, stressing the importance of timely payments to avoid detrimental effects on the academic calendar and students’ futures.
