President-elect John Dramani Mahama has cautioned individuals eyeing appointments in his incoming administration to reconsider if they are unwilling to commit to hard work and sacrifice.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, and his delegation on Thursday, December 12, Mahama emphasized the high expectations of Ghanaians and the necessity for dedicated leadership.
“Ghanaians are slow to react, but if they have had enough, they will punish you. I want to urge those aspiring to work with the new government that it is not going to be easy or business as usual. It is going to be hard work. So, if you are not prepared to work hard and to sacrifice for Ghana, then you better stay in the private sector,” Mahama warned.
Expectations for the Incoming Administration
The President-elect reiterated his commitment to effective governance, holding his team accountable to ensure that the needs of Ghanaians are prioritized. He underscored the importance of delivering tangible results, noting that citizens are paying closer attention to government performance.
This statement comes just days after Mahama was declared the winner of the 2024 general elections by the Electoral Commission, securing 56.55% of the vote.
A Call to Action for Appointees
Mahama’s admonition reflects the resolve to build a results-driven government amidst Ghana’s current economic challenges. His firm stance is a signal to prospective appointees that their roles will demand exceptional commitment, aligning with his promise of accountable leadership during the campaign.
The President-elect’s remarks have been widely interpreted as a move to restore public trust in governance and address concerns about inefficiency and unproductiveness within public service.
