Stabilizing the Cedi Will Be My Top Priority – Mahama

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has emphasized that stabilizing Ghana’s currency, the Cedi, will be his administration’s foremost priority once the transition of power is complete.

In a meeting with the Algerian Ambassador to Ghana, Mourad Louhaidia, at his residence, Mahama outlined his vision for addressing the country’s pressing economic challenges. These include inflation, currency depreciation, and a broader need for economic recovery.

Economic Focus

Mahama expressed determination to implement strategies aimed at enhancing economic growth, stabilizing the Cedi, and reducing inflation, which he acknowledged as key concerns affecting Ghanaians.

“We are looking to focus and bring Ghana back up in terms of economic growth, in terms of stabilizing the currency, in terms of bringing down inflation,” he stated.

Strengthening Partnerships

Mahama also emphasized the importance of international partnerships, particularly with nations like China, in addressing Ghana’s economic difficulties. He expressed hope for immediate engagements with key partners following the transition.

“As early as possible, once we get the transition out of the way, it is our hope that we will be able to constitute a delegation to begin engaging with China on the issues of our technical cooperation,” he added.

This focus on economic stabilization signals Mahama’s intent to address one of Ghana’s most pressing challenges, prioritizing relief for citizens and laying a foundation for sustained growth.
