The Ekumfi Traditional Council has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to ensure an equitable distribution of the nation’s wealth, particularly for the people of the Central Region.
Speaking on behalf of the Council, Odeefuor Akyin VIII, President of the Ekumfi Traditional Council, expressed their confidence in Mahama’s leadership, citing his respect for traditional authorities across the country as a significant factor in his overwhelming electoral endorsement.
Call for Equitable Development
The Council emphasized the need for balanced national development and implored the incoming administration to prioritize inclusivity. Odeefuor Akyin VIII highlighted previous instances of perceived neglect, referencing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s comments earlier in the year. Akufo-Addo had suggested that Ekumfi’s lack of development was due to their refusal to vote for NPP candidate Francis Ato Cudjoe in the 2020 parliamentary elections.
“We urge the President-elect to ensure that development is evenly distributed across the country, including Ekumfi, so no community feels left out or punished for political choices,” Odeefuor Akyin VIII stated.
Recognition of Mahama as a ‘Son of the Land’
The Traditional Council reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Mahama’s presidency, acknowledging him as the successor to the late President John Evans Atta Mills, a revered figure from the Central Region.
“As a son of the land, President-elect Mahama holds a special place in our hearts, and we trust that he will fulfill his mandate with fairness and dedication,” the Council affirmed.
Commitment to Development
The Ekumfi Traditional Council’s appeal underscores a broader expectation among Ghanaians for Mahama’s administration to foster inclusive growth and bridge regional disparities. As Mahama prepares to assume office, calls for equitable development are expected to shape his governance agenda, particularly in regions with historical grievances over marginalization.
The Council concluded by pledging their support to the President-elect while reiterating their hope for meaningful and balanced development across the country.
