Joshua Alabi Accuses NPP of Electoral Manipulation Focus During 2024 Elections

Joshua Alabi, Campaign Manager for President-elect John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly prioritizing electoral manipulation over presenting meaningful policies during the 2024 general elections.

In an interview with TV3 Ghana, Alabi stated that the NDC concentrated on a robust and transparent campaign strategy, engaging directly with voters and addressing their concerns. He accused the NPP of focusing its efforts on strategies to influence the election outcome unfairly, undermining the democratic process.

NDC’s Grassroots Engagement

Alabi emphasized the NDC’s strong grassroots presence during the campaign, highlighting how the party’s clear messaging resonated with voters. He attributed the party’s success to its commitment to addressing pressing issues faced by Ghanaians, ensuring its campaign was rooted in authenticity and visibility.

“Your performance will give you the mark that you require, and to an extent, I must say that the NDC campaigned very well. We had good campaign messages and our presence was felt everywhere,” Alabi remarked.

Calls to Protect Votes

Alabi revealed that many voters expressed concerns about the integrity of the electoral process, urging the NDC to safeguard their ballots. According to him, the NDC worked diligently to protect the votes and uphold the democratic process.

“All over, people would call us and say, ‘We shall vote for you, but protect the votes,’ and we assured them that we would protect the ballots,” he added.

Looking Ahead

The accusations of manipulation cast a shadow over the electoral process, reinforcing calls for enhanced electoral reforms and vigilance in safeguarding Ghana’s democratic principles. Alabi’s remarks underline the NDC’s focus on fostering trust and credibility with the electorate, which he believes played a key role in securing the party’s victory in the 2024 elections.
