Joshua Alabi, the Campaign Manager for John Dramani Mahama during the December 7, 2024 general elections, has emphasized that Mahama’s overwhelming victory represents a significant alignment with the aspirations of Ghanaians. Alabi described Mahama as a focused leader, uniquely suited to lead Ghana at this critical juncture, noting that the electorate’s choice demonstrated their confidence in Mahama’s leadership and vision for sustainable growth and prosperity.
In an interview with TV3 Ghana, Alabi elaborated on the qualities that make Mahama an exceptional leader, highlighting his deep understanding of the country’s challenges and opportunities. According to Alabi, Mahama’s previous tenure as president, coupled with his time away from office, provided him with a unique perspective to critically appraise both his past performance and the administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Alabi explained, “Mahama is very focused, and he knows exactly what he wants to do. He was there, he was out, and this time out allowed him to thoroughly evaluate his previous tenure and compare it with the NPP’s leadership. This process has enabled him to define a clear and effective plan for his second term.”
The campaign manager also asserted that Mahama is more prepared than ever to govern, adding, “I see a leader who will be better than he was. He has learned from the past, and he is now poised to address the nation’s challenges in a way that resonates with the people.”
He emphasized that although Mahama may not be able to solve every problem, his leadership will set the right foundations, and with the people’s support, they will progress together. This focused approach, according to Alabi, will create an environment where the people feel included and confident in the direction Mahama intends to take the country.
Alabi also referenced Mahama’s decisive electoral victory, where he secured 6,328,397 votes, or 56.55% of the total votes cast. This substantial margin placed him well ahead of his closest contender, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP, who received 4,657,304 votes (41.61%). Alabi interpreted this victory as a clear mandate from the Ghanaian people for transformative and inclusive leadership.
He further asserted that Mahama’s return to office is not merely a political comeback but a reaffirmation of his commitment to addressing the pressing issues facing the nation, particularly those of economic growth, national unity, and social development. Alabi is confident that Mahama’s leadership will reflect the values of humility, integrity, and public service that he has long championed.
This victory, Alabi concluded, underscores the people’s desire for leadership that puts the country’s welfare first, and he believes Mahama is the right person to deliver on that promise.
