NPP Calls for Resumption of Re-Collation of Disputed Parliamentary Seats

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to immediately resume the re-collation of the disputed parliamentary seats from the December 7, 2024 general elections. This call follows a temporary halt in the re-collation process, which was suspended by the EC due to disagreements between the political parties involved over the procedures.

During a press conference on December 16, 2024, the NPP outlined that, based on their independent collation process, they have won several parliamentary seats. The seats identified by the party include Dome-Kwabenya, Ahafo Ano North, Ahafo Ano South West, Obuasi East, Techiman South, Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Aowin, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Okaikwei Central.

The Electoral Commission had previously declared the NPP as the winner of the Suhum, Fanteakwa North, and Akwatia seats after re-collating results at the National Police Training School (NPTS) in Tesano, Accra. However, the re-collation process for other constituencies was temporarily halted by the EC on December 13 following growing concerns about the validity and transparency of the process.

The suspension came after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) obtained a court injunction to stop the re-collation of the Nsawam/Adoagyiri constituency results at the Police Training School. The NDC had raised concerns about irregularities and inconsistencies in the earlier results, which they claimed affected the fairness of the process. The injunction resulted in a pause to allow the parties to further consult and resolve the issues.

Addressing the press conference, Peter Mac Manu, the former Chairman of the NPP, reiterated the party’s belief that the results of the contested constituencies accurately reflected the will of the people. Mac Manu expressed confidence that the NPP candidates in these constituencies won the elections based on their own collation, and called for the EC to resume the process without delay.

Mac Manu also appealed to the National Election Security Taskforce to provide the necessary security to ensure the smooth continuation of the re-collation process. He urged the taskforce to guarantee that the process would take place in a secure, peaceful, and transparent manner, free from any disruptions.

Furthermore, the NPP called on the NDC to caution its supporters and prevent any actions that could undermine the re-collation process. Mac Manu emphasized that while the NPP remains confident in its victories, the party hopes for the swift resolution of any disputes through the appropriate legal channels and procedures. He added that the NPP expects the EC to carry out its constitutional mandate and ensure that all parliamentary results are declared in a free, fair, and transparent manner.

The EC’s decision to suspend the re-collation was taken to allow time for all political parties to engage in dialogue to address concerns and discrepancies in the results. As the election-related legal disputes continue, all parties are keenly awaiting further developments and decisions from the courts and the EC regarding the contested constituencies.
