President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commended the peaceful conduct of Ghana’s 2024 general elections, describing it as a testament to the nation’s enduring commitment to democratic principles.

Speaking at the commissioning of the new office complex for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, the President lauded the smooth electoral process, which he said underscores Ghana’s position as a beacon of democracy in Africa.

  • Peaceful Elections: The President highlighted the absence of significant electoral violence, attributing it to the maturity of Ghana’s democratic institutions and the electorate.
  • Gracious Concession: He applauded Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his prompt concession after the official results were declared, describing it as an act of statesmanship that strengthens national unity.

Election Outcomes

In the presidential race, John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerged victorious with:

  • 56.55% of valid votes cast (6,328,397 votes)
  • Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received 41.66% (4,657,304 votes)

This marks Mahama’s return to the presidency after defeating the ruling NPP amidst economic challenges and public dissatisfaction with governance under the Akufo-Addo administration.

Parliamentary Uncertainty

While the presidential results are finalized, 12 parliamentary constituencies remain in limbo, with official results yet to be declared. The Electoral Commission has assured the public that these issues will be resolved expeditiously to ensure the integrity of the parliamentary outcomes.
