The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has called on the public to support its efforts in ensuring credible and transparent elections, amidst ongoing disputes over the re-collation and declaration of parliamentary results in several constituencies.
Disputed Constituencies
The constituencies in question include Nsawam Adoagyiri, Dome Kwabenya, Ablekuma North, and Okaikwei Central.
EC Chairperson’s Call for Support
During a press conference in Accra on Friday, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa stressed the importance of public cooperation in maintaining the integrity of the electoral process. She emphasized that credible elections are a collective responsibility that requires the involvement of all citizens, urging them to contribute to peace and order during elections.
“We would like to finally call on the citizens of Ghana to support us in our bid to carry out our mandate. May God bless all of you and may God bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong,” Mensa said.
Stance on Disputed Results
Mensa reaffirmed the EC’s position that the parliamentary results for Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, and Ablekuma North remain invalid. She explained that the results in these constituencies were declared under duress, due to threats against electoral staff and incidents of ballot paper destruction.
The EC has not yet announced its next steps in resolving the disputes in these constituencies, leaving the matter unresolved.
