Electoral Commission Reveals Collation Disruptions in Nine Constituencies

The Electoral Commission (EC) has disclosed details of the disruptions that occurred during the collation process in nine constituencies following the 2024 general elections.

The affected constituencies include Fanteakwa North, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Techiman South, Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Dome-Kwabenya, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, Ahafo Ano South West, Akwatia, and Suhum.

In an official statement, the EC attributed the interruptions to actions by political parties, which led to significant challenges in finalizing the election results. The Commission highlighted instances where:

  • Returning officers were coerced into declaring candidates as winners under duress.
  • Threats were made to the lives of electoral officers.
  • Disruptions involved tampering with ballot papers or pink sheets.

The EC emphasized its commitment to resolving these challenges transparently while safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process. It assured the public that measures were being taken to address the issues and avoid similar occurrences in the future.

The incidents have raised concerns about the electoral process’s security and the need for strengthened measures to prevent political interference in subsequent elections.
