Lawyers representing Haruna Appau Wiredu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Fanteakwa North, have called on the Clerk of Parliament to reject any documents that fail to recognize their client as the duly elected Member of Parliament for the constituency.
The legal team, led by Isaac Mintah Larbi, has filed a judicial review application at the High Court in Koforidua, seeking to nullify the Electoral Commission’s (EC) redeclaration of the Fanteakwa North Parliamentary election results. The redeclaration, which took place in Tesano on December 12, is being challenged as unlawful.
Speaking to the media, Larbi accused the EC of engaging in illegal actions and urged the Clerk of Parliament to avoid perpetuating the alleged illegality by recognizing any other individual as the MP-elect for Fanteakwa North.
“On this note, I am drawing the Clerk of Parliament’s attention to all that has gone on and urging him to ensure compliance with the laws of this country. The Electoral Commission’s actions so far amount to illegality, and the Clerk cannot continue to legitimize these unlawful acts,” Larbi stated.
The legal team emphasized that Haruna Appau Wiredu had been declared the winner by the EC’s Returning Officer in the constituency and called on the Clerk to uphold that declaration.
“We are humbly asking the Clerk of Parliament to disregard any document bearing a name other than Haruna Appau Wiredu, who remains the MP-elect of Fanteakwa North,” Larbi added.
The case underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding the Fanteakwa North results and highlights the need for judicial clarity to resolve the matter.
