2025/2026 Academic Calendar: GES sets October 18 as reporting date for SHS freshers

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that first-year Senior High School (SHS) students across the country will officially report to school on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in line with the 2025/2026 academic calendar.

In a circular addressed to all Regional Directors of Education, the GES directed that both Single Track and Transitional schools admit their new students on the specified date to commence the academic year.

The letter, signed by the Director of Schools and Instructions Division, Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, further stated that a detailed academic calendar has been attached for implementation. The document outlines term dates, holidays, and special considerations to guide a smooth school year.

Regional Directors have been instructed to circulate the calendar to all heads of second-cycle institutions in their jurisdictions, with a reminder for schools to strictly adhere to the timelines provided.

“The Service counts on your usual cooperation to ensure effective teaching and learning in our institutions for the 2025/2026 academic year,” the statement emphasized.

The GES has also copied the communication to relevant stakeholders, including the GES Council, the Director-General of TVET, WAEC, and the Free SHS Secretariat under the Ministry of Education.
