In the early hours of January 2, 2025, a massive fire broke out at Accra’s Kantamanto Market, causing extensive damage and displacing hundreds of traders. The blaze, which began around 1:00 a.m., destroyed over 100 shops in the market, a major hub in Accra’s Central Business District.
The Ghana National Fire Service responded promptly, deploying approximately 13 fire tenders from various stations across the Greater Accra Region to combat the flames. Firefighters worked tirelessly throughout the morning to bring the situation under control and prevent further damage. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities are working to determine its origin and assess the full extent of the damage.
