The Ghana Used Clothing Dealers Association (GUCDA) has appealed for support following the devastating fire that destroyed Kantamanto Market on January 2, 2025, the fire left countless traders, including GUCDA members, grappling with immense losses to their livelihoods and businesses.
In a statement by GUCDA’s General Secretary, Edward Atobrah Binkley, he described Kantamanto market as the vibrant heartbeat of our nation’s informal economy where thousands of hardworking men and women strive daily to provide for their families and build better lives.
“Kantamanto Market is more than a marketplace. It is a vibrant heartbeat of our nation’s informal economy, a sanctuary where thousands of hardworking men and women strive daily to provide for their families and build better lives. Yesterday’s fire has left this cherished community in ruins, and the pain and uncertainty it has caused is deeply felt by us all”.
GUCDA is urging the government, corporate organizations, non-profits, and compassionate individuals to help rebuild the iconic market as the association has pledged to mobilize resources and work tirelessly to restore hope and dignity to those affected, calling for collective action to create a safer and more sustainable future for the market.
“We humbly appeal to the government, corporate organizations, non-profits, and compassionate individuals across the nation and beyond: Kantamanto needs you now more than ever,” it added.
