The Internal Audit Agency (IAA) has expressed its long-standing challenges as an agency which include inadequate resources, limited independence, and insufficient implementation of audit recommendations.
These issues have undermined efforts to ensure financial accountability in institutions.
To address these challenges, the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Ghana jointly launched the Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS) today, January 9, 2025, in Accra. This initiative is expected to elevate Ghana’s internal audit practices to global standards, fostering transparency and professional excellence.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Eric Oduro Osae, Director-General of the IAA, emphasized the transformative potential of GIAS.
“This launch marks a critical step in globalizing Ghana’s internal auditors. With these standards, our auditors will gain international recognition and deliver work that meets the highest global benchmarks,” he stated.
Dr. Osae urged the government to expedite the amendment of the Internal Audit Law to facilitate the full implementation of GIAS and improve conditions of service for internal auditors.
Joseph Dakora Zumasigee, President of the IIA Ghana, also underscored the importance of the initiative.
“The adoption of the Global Internal Audit Standards will not only enhance the credibility of our profession but also ensure that Ghana’s internal auditors are equipped to address complex challenges with precision and professionalism,” he stated.
He further called for collaboration between stakeholders to ensure the success of the initiative.
