Electrochem Ghana condemns armed raid on warehouse by alleged NDC supporters

Electrochem Ghana Limited has denounced a violent attack on its Ada facilities in the Greater Accra region by armed individuals alleging affiliation with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The incident occurred around 3:00 am on Thursday, January 9, 2025, when assailants wielding cutlasses and firearms, reportedly led by a known NDC activist, invaded the premises.

The attackers ransacked the facility, stealing essential office supplies and a substantial quantity of salt products from the warehouse.

This criminal act resulted in significant financial losses and disrupted the company’s operations, impacting its workforce and local activities.

Several employees sustained injuries during the chaos, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect personnel and assets.

Electrochem Ghana Limited, a prominent enterprise in the local economy, employs approximately 1,800 permanent workers and supports over 3,000 casual workers during peak salt mining seasons.

The company has been actively involved in community development efforts, including establishing community pans, outgrower schemes, and various initiatives aimed at enhancing local livelihoods.

The recurring security breaches not only threaten the company’s operational stability but also jeopardize the livelihoods of thousands who depend on it for employment.

Such lawlessness undermines the investment climate in the region and erodes the trust of local and international investors who have significantly contributed to the company’s operations and community initiatives.

Electrochem Ghana is calling on authorities to take decisive action to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for this attack to prevent further destabilization of its operations and restore confidence in the safety of businesses operating in the region.

The company also urges the public to condemn these violent acts and demand an immediate investigation into the incident.

The safety of employees remains a top priority for Electrochem Ghana, and this incident highlights the need for enhanced security measures to protect personnel and assets.
