Mohammed-Abdul-Salam

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mohammed Abdul-Salam as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

The decision, effective January 15, 2025, was announced in a statement signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, the Executive Secretary to the President. Mr. Abdul-Salam, who previously served as the Northern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is expected to bring his extensive experience and leadership skills to the position.

This appointment follows the resignation of Sammi Awuku, who stepped down to focus on his parliamentary duties as the newly elected Member of Parliament for Akuapem North. Mr. Awuku, who was appointed as Director-General of the NLA in August 2021 by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, expressed his commitment to serving his constituents effectively in his resignation letter dated January 13, 2025.

The NLA, under its mandate, has recently undertaken significant reforms to enhance transparency and competition within the lottery industry. Notably, in September 2024, the authority licensed 15 Private Lotto Operators to foster fair competition and regulate the sector effectively.

President Mahama expressed confidence in Mr. Abdul-Salam’s ability to continue these reforms and lead the NLA to greater achievements. The President extended his best wishes to the new Acting CEO as he assumes the role.
