NAGRAT Expresses Confidence in Haruna Iddrisu’s Leadership for Education Ministry

The President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Carbonu, has expressed strong support for Haruna Iddrisu’s nomination as the Minister for Education, following his announcement by President John Dramani Mahama on January 16, 2025. Carbonu commended Iddrisu for his previous leadership experience and expressed confidence in his ability to effectively lead Ghana’s Ministry of Education.

In an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Carbonu congratulated Iddrisu on his nomination and noted his successful tenure as the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations. He recalled working with Iddrisu during significant labor challenges, where Iddrisu demonstrated effective leadership, skill, and competence. “I see him as very capable, a very competent person who can handle any ministry, including education, once he is approved by the committee,” said Carbonu.

Carbonu’s support is seen as a sign of reassurance for the upcoming leadership in the education sector, which faces critical challenges, including infrastructure, quality of education, and teacher welfare. Iddrisu’s leadership, if confirmed, will be instrumental in addressing these concerns and ensuring that Ghana’s education system aligns with the country’s broader goals for national development and educational excellence.

Iddrisu’s nomination comes with high expectations, particularly given his reputation for handling complex issues with a calm and diplomatic approach. NAGRAT’s endorsement reflects a belief that his extensive experience will help address the education sector’s pressing issues while upholding the interests of teachers and students alike.

This nomination also marks a critical phase in President Mahama’s governance strategy, where education plays a pivotal role in shaping Ghana’s future. As Ghana continues to push for educational reforms and improvements, Iddrisu’s leadership could prove crucial in ensuring that the sector meets the needs of the country’s youth and its broader socio-economic development plans.
