At a press conference on January 22, 2025, at the Ghana International Press Centre, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), voiced deep concerns over the unresolved cases of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale’s murder and the assault on journalist Latif Iddrisu. He criticized the stagnation in police investigations and outlined the GJA’s plans to seek justice.

Ahmed Suale’s Unresolved Murder

Six years after the assassination of Ahmed Suale, a member of the investigative firm Tiger Eye Private Investigations, no arrests have been made. In February 2024, Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame assured the government’s commitment to resolving the case, highlighting extensive investigations, including collaborations with the FBI. Despite these efforts, the case remains unsolved.

In January 2025, MP Kwame Asare-Obeng (A Plus) alleged the involvement of a former high-profile government minister in Suale’s murder. He urged the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to provide updates, threatening to disclose the suspect’s identity publicly if the police did not act promptly.

The GJA has given the Ghana Police Service until the end of March 2025 to deliver tangible updates on the case. Failing this, the association plans to hold press conferences, brief international partners, and escalate the matter to the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice.

Assault on Latif Iddrisu

Journalist Latif Iddrisu, formerly with Multimedia, suffered severe injuries after being assaulted by police officers in 2018. Despite claims of insufficient evidence and faulty CCTV footage by the police, the GJA remains steadfast in pursuing justice for him. The association intends to take his case to the ECOWAS court to ensure accountability.

GJA’s Commitment to Press Freedom

Mr. Dwumfour emphasized that the GJA will not relent in its efforts to seek justice for its members. He called on the authorities to expedite investigations and uphold the rights and safety of journalists in Ghana.
