The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former President John Mahama of negligence following violent clashes at AngloGold Ashanti in Obuasi. The incident, which stemmed from disputes over illegal mining (galamsey) activities, resulted in several fatalities.
Addressing the media, NPP’s National Communications Officer, Richard Ahiagba, alleged that the NDC government under Mahama failed to act decisively to prevent the tragedy. According to the NPP, the NDC allowed the perpetrators of the violence to operate unchecked, worsening the situation and leading to deaths.
Ahiagba claimed that the NDC’s inaction during the crisis was politically motivated, accusing the party of prioritizing its interests over the safety of residents and the stability of the Obuasi community. The NPP demanded accountability and urged the public to hold the NDC responsible for the devastation caused.
