The long-awaited announcement of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across Ghana will finally be made by President John Dramani Mahama by Friday, January 31, 2025.

Anthony Nukpenu, the Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), revealed this during an interview on Citi FM’s Breakfast Show on Monday, January 27. He stated that the Greater Accra Region is in the final stages of vetting candidates and will be forwarding its recommendations for review shortly.

“Some regions completed the vetting process last week. We are finalising ours today, and by this evening or early tomorrow morning, we should be forwarding our list to the appropriate office,” Mr. Nukpenu said.

He further disclosed that a team set up by President Mahama, in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, will be reviewing all submissions to ensure that the most qualified and capable individuals are selected for these crucial roles.

“We hope the Local Government Minister and the team will expedite their review and make the right recommendations to the president for his announcement,” Nukpenu added.

The MMDCE positions are critical for the administration of local governance, as they oversee development, public service delivery, and the implementation of government policies at the local level.

Mr. Nukpenu expressed optimism that the entire process would be completed on time, enabling the president to unveil the final list by the end of the week.

“In my estimation, by Friday, we should be announcing MMDCEs across the country if everyone works assiduously,” he concluded.

The announcement of MMDCEs has been a subject of intense interest and anticipation, with political observers and stakeholders calling for a transparent process to ensure competent leadership at the district level.

Stay tuned for further updates as the vetting process concludes and the final list is presented to the president.
