Lawyers for Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the youth activist, have refuted allegations linking their client to claims of bribery involving majority members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
This comes after the Committee summoned Barker-Vormawor over a controversial social media post attributed to him, which alleged that committee members accepted bribes.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee on January 29, Barker-Vormawor’s lead counsel, Nana Ato Dadzie, firmly stated:
“The statement is fake; this is not coming from Mr. Vormawor. He never posted that statement. The statement reads: ‘NDC members on the Appointments Committee take monies from Mahama’s ministerial nominees before approving them, and the Deputy Speaker must submit himself to ORAL.’ This is not from Mr. Vormawor.”
However, the lawyers clarified that any previous Facebook posts were not intended as disparaging remarks against the Committee. They issued an apology and formally withdrew the statement.
