Professor Ransford Gyampo, a distinguished political scientist at the University of Ghana, has been appointed as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA). His appointment, made by President John Dramani Mahama, marks a significant leadership change at the authority, as he takes over from Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, who was appointed by the previous Akufo-Addo administration in December 2024.

Profile of Prof. Ransford Gyampo

Born on March 31, 1977, in Accra, Prof. Ransford Edward Van Gyampo has built a distinguished career in academia, research, and public administration. He is a Professor of Political Science and the Founding Director of the Centre for European Studies at the University of Ghana.

Prof. Gyampo holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ghana and has pursued advanced studies at Tufts University in Boston, USA. His academic and research focus spans governance, democratic development in Ghana and Africa, leadership, electoral studies, youth empowerment, maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, and peacebuilding in Africa.

International Recognition and Contributions

As a visiting scholar at the University of South Florida’s Department of Government and International Relations and a visiting professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Bristol, Prof. Gyampo has contributed extensively to global discourse on governance and policy reforms.

Before his academic tenure, he served at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA-Ghana) for 14 years, rising from a Research Assistant to Senior Research Fellow. During this period, he spearheaded governance and socio-economic research projects that provided policy recommendations to address Ghana’s pressing challenges.
