Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has suspended four Members of Parliament for two weeks following a chaotic incident during the Appointments Committee’s vetting process on Thursday, 30th 2025.

The suspended MPs are:

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor – Majority Chief Whip

Frank Annoh-Dompreh – Minority Chief Whip

Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli, MP

Jerry Ahmed Shaib, MP

The altercation occurred during the vetting of ministerial nominees, leading to physical confrontations and damage to parliamentary property. In response, Speaker Bagbin has taken several measures to address the situation:

1. Suspension of Involved MPs: The four MPs have been suspended from parliamentary sittings and activities for two weeks, effective immediately.

2. Criminal Investigation: The Clerk of Parliament has been directed to file a formal complaint with the police to initiate a full investigation into the incident.

3. Reconstitution of the Appointments Committee: The Committee of Selection has been instructed to reconstitute the Appointments Committee to restore trust and ensure effective operation.

4. Assessment of Damages: The Clerk of Parliament will assess the damage caused to parliamentary property, and MPs found responsible will be surcharged for repair costs.

5. Investigative Committee: A seven-member committee, chaired by Emmanuel Bedzrah, has been established to investigate the incident and is expected to submit its findings within 10 days.

These actions underscore the Speaker’s commitment to maintaining order and discipline within Parliament. The incident has been widely reported in the media, highlighting concerns over parliamentary conduct.
