Committee to Hold Public Hearings on Vetting Chaos from February 5

The committee investigating the disruptions during the vetting of ministerial nominees is set to begin public hearings on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.

The committee, chaired by Ho West MP Emmanuel Bedzrah, was established by Speaker Alban Bagbin on January 31 following a heated altercation in Parliament during the vetting session on January 30. The clash between the Majority and Minority over the scheduling of nominees led to chaos in the chamber and damage to parliamentary property.

The seven-member committee comprises:

  • Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi
  • Gizella Akushika Tetteh-Agbotui
  • Abena Osei Asare
  • Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings
  • Vincent Oppong Asamoah
  • Bede Anwataazuma Ziedeng

The committee has been given 10 days to complete its work and submit a report detailing its findings and recommendations.

Addressing Parliament, Speaker Bagbin emphasized that maintaining order and discipline in the House was critical to ensuring the credibility of the legislature. He also noted that MPs found culpable for the destruction of property would be held financially responsible for repairs.

The hearings will be open to the public, with individuals invited to submit testimonies regarding the disturbances. The outcome of the investigation could have far-reaching implications for parliamentary proceedings and disciplinary measures in the future.
