The Minority Caucus in Parliament has reaffirmed its determination to stand firm in the face of challenges, vowing not to be intimidated by the Majority.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, February 3, 2024, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin emphasized the caucus’s resilience, stating that their actions are guided by the national interest.

“Indeed, we are going through difficult moments, but we will never be intimidated. Aluta continua, victoria acerta. We will not allow ourselves to be cowered. The mighty few and the happy few, we are going to stand our ground and ensure that the right thing is done all in the national interest,” he declared.

Commitment to Cooperation

Afenyo-Markin clarified that despite the ongoing tensions, the Minority does not intend to obstruct government business but will continue to participate in parliamentary proceedings constructively.

“We are not going to fight anybody, we are not going to disrupt and obstruct government business. So far, we have been the most cooperative in the chamber, and the NDC should applaud us for supporting them,” he added.

The Minority’s statement comes amid heightened political tensions, particularly regarding the ministerial vetting process and recent clashes in Parliament. The caucus maintains that it will uphold accountability while ensuring that parliamentary business proceeds in the country’s best interest.
