Professor Ransford Edward Gyampo has officially taken over as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA), promising a collaborative and stakeholder-driven approach to advancing Ghana’s commercial shipping sector.
At a handing-over ceremony held at the Ghana Shippers’ House on Monday, February 3, 2025, the outgoing CEO, Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, extended his best wishes to Prof. Gyampo and assured him of a smooth transition.
Welcoming him to the role, management and staff of the GSA pledged their full support to achieving the organization’s objectives. In his inaugural address, Prof. Gyampo expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead and emphasized his commitment to participatory leadership.
“The Ghana Shippers’ Authority is a key player in our nation’s economic framework. While our core mandate is to facilitate and protect the interests of shippers, we must achieve this through close collaboration with all stakeholders to build a resilient and thriving logistics sector,” he stated.
He assured shipping service providers and industry players of his dedication to promoting business growth and economic development. Additionally, he pledged to maintain an open-door policy and work closely with staff to ensure effective operations at the GSA.
The Secretary of the GSA Union, Kojo Frimpong, welcomed the new CEO’s leadership approach and assured him of the team’s commitment to fostering a productive working relationship.
Profile of Prof. Ransford Gyampo
Prof. Gyampo is a distinguished academic with over two decades of teaching and research experience. A Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana, he is also the Founding Director of the Centre for European Studies at the university. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ghana and Tufts University in the United States.
His experience includes serving as Coordinator of the Political Parties Program at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) for a decade, where he facilitated engagements with political party leaders, contributed to constitutional reforms, and played a key role in passing the Presidential Transition Act.
In the maritime sector, Prof. Gyampo has conducted research on maritime security projects in Ghana, providing insights into capacity-building and regulatory frameworks. He intends to apply this knowledge in advancing the GSA’s mandate, which covers shipping by sea, air, road, and rail.
With his extensive leadership experience and academic expertise, Prof. Gyampo is expected to lead the Ghana Shippers’ Authority into a new era of efficiency and growth, ensuring that shippers’ interests remain a top priority in Ghana’s evolving logistics and commercial shipping landscape.
