First Deputy Speaker, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, who presided over the house on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, during proceedings, directed the Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to appear before Parliament within a week to update Ghanaians on the Meningitis and cholera outbreaks.
The directive followed a statement read by Member of Parliament for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa, Hon. Dr. Sebastian Ngmenenso Sandaare, on February 6, 2025, during parliamentary proceedings on the Meningitis outbreak, and a statement by Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu Municipal, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, on the cholera epidemic in the Effutu Municipal on February 11, 2025, on the floor of Parliament.
These epidemics have so far claimed lives, and many are battling to survive the outbreaks.
Other Members of Parliament added their voices, advocating for the sensitization of food vendors and the general public on water treatment and proper education in order to overcome these unfortunate situations.
