President John Dramani Mahama has directed Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson to take urgent steps to address a $156 million funding gap following the suspension of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) programme.

A statement from the Presidency expressed concern over the financial shortfall, warning that it could severely impact critical health and social intervention programs across the country.

A significant portion of the deficit—$78.2 million—affects key health services, including malaria prevention, maternal and child healthcare, family planning, reproductive health, and nutrition.

Additionally, Ghana’s fight against HIV/AIDS is at risk, as the funding gap threatens access to antiretroviral drugs, testing, and other preventive measures.

To prevent disruptions, President Mahama has instructed the Finance Ministry to prioritize urgent interventions and implement immediate funding solutions.

Dr. Ato Forson is expected to present a detailed plan outlining alternative funding sources and policy measures to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.

The government remains committed to sustaining critical health programs and is exploring long-term strategies to secure sustainable funding for essential services.
