UPNMG calls for calm amid revocation of Post-December 7 Nursing appointments -

The Union of Professional Nurses and Midwives, Ghana (UPNMG) has urged newly posted nurses and midwives to remain calm following a directive from the Acting Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) revoking all appointments and recruitments made after December 7, 2024.

In a statement, the union acknowledged the growing concerns among affected healthcare workers, particularly those who received financial clearance in June 2024 but have yet to be placed on the government payroll.

“We acknowledge the concerns of nurses and midwives who received financial clearance in June 2024 but are yet to be placed on the government payroll by the various agencies they have been posted to. Understandably, this development has caused anxiety among our junior colleagues and the broader nursing and midwifery community”.

UPNMG assured its members that it is actively engaging relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service, to seek clarity on the implementation of the directive and advocate for the best possible outcome.

“The UPNMG wishes to assure all newly posted nurses and midwives that we are actively engaging with relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, and other key authorities, to gain clarity on the implementation of this directive and advocate for the best possible outcome for our members,” the statement reads.

The union reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of nurses and midwives in Ghana and promised to provide further updates as discussions with authorities progress.

“We urge all newly posted nurses and midwives to remain calm as we work tirelessly to ensure that their concerns are addressed and their well-being safeguarded”.
